If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take:
- Take Grayson Pkwy southwest out of town, then turn right onto Main St. After you pass the Burger King, we’re in the next building on the right. We look forward to seeing you!
- Take Rosebud Rd south, then turn right onto Cooper Rd, then turn right onto Athens Hwy, which will become Main St. Follow the rest of the above directions to reach our office.
Do You Know How Grayson Got Its Name?
The city of Grayson was originally known as Trip (and the first local school was named for it). In 1901, John Ellery Jacobs, the postmaster and eventually the first mayor of the town, requested that the name of Trip, Georgia, be changed to Berkley, Georgia. On December 6, 1901, the General Assembly of Georgia approved an act to incorporate the town and change its name. However, Jacobs was soon informed that the name Berkley was already in use. He then proposed the name Graymount, due to the clear view of Stone Mountain, but found that this name too was taken. Finally, he suggested the name Grayson, Georgia, which was accepted.
Establishing and maintaining a post office in Grayson proved to be as challenging as naming the city itself. The local citizen, Tom Moore (husband of Ponnie McConnell), discovered plans to close the city’s post office. Determined to keep it open, he successfully lobbied the Postal Authorities and even provided a building to house the facility. The renewed post office was officially dedicated, with an Open House celebrated on July 12, 1964.
